LUCENA CITY — The municipal government of Cuenca, Batangas has temporarily closed Mount Maculot, a popular hiking destination, as it rolls out new tourism and environmental management measures. In an advisory, the local government said hiking activities on the 3,107-foot mountain will remain prohibited “for the foreseeable future” to support efforts toward responsible and sustainable tourism. The notice, signed by Mayor Alexander Magpantay and tourism officer Brent Endaya, said authorities are currently determining the mountain’s carrying capacity to ensure visitor safety while protecting its natural environment and sustaining tourism benefits.
